Real Madrid won their eighteenth Copa del Rey title by beating Barcelona in the 2011 final. The decisive match was played at Mestalla and José Mourinho's side had to overcome Murcia, Levante, Atlético Madrid and Sevilla to get there.

The final was decided by a spectacular header from Cristiano Ronaldo in extra time. It was the third time Real Madrid had won the Copa at Mestalla after 1936 against Barcelona and 1993 against Zaragoza. Three years later, in 2014, they would win the final of this competition again in the Valencian stadium against Barcelona.
