Real Madrid continue their intense week with the third of four games in seven days. After wins in La Liga against Baskonia and Coviran Granada, today they face Zalgiris Kaunas away in the 20th round of the Euroleague. Chus Mateo‘s team will be looking for their fifth consecutive win in the competition to continue with their good dynamic.
Real Madrid face a very demanding game at the Zalgirio Arena. Our team will test their great form and offence (84.6 points on average) against the best defensive team in the Euroleague (76.9). Since the defeat against Zalgiris on 12 December, the team coached by Chus Mateo has won all four games (Paris Basketball, Monaco, Alba Berlin and Bayern Munich). Four wins in which they have reduced their points conceded from 81 to 75. This will be an important factor as the Lithuanians have the worst offence in the competition (77.4).
Looking to keep climbing up the table
The two teams are level on 10 wins but they are on opposite courses. While Zalgiris have started to wane, Madrid are on the upswing. They are three wins away from first place and have a home double-header next week against Maccabi and Olympiacos. Trinchieri's side go into the game on the back of three straight defeats, two of them on their home court against Asvel and Olympiacos.
Zalgiris stand out as a compact and very tough team. The arrival of Walker IV and Francisco has given them more individual talent. The two of them and forward Sirvydis are the team's offensive references. Madrid won there last year, although they had to work hard (62-64). Campazzo, Musa, Hezonja and Tavares, are all in double figures in scoring and PIR and ready to lead Madrid as they look for their eleventh Euroleague win.
