Chus Mateo: “We’re on the right track, but we can’t be careless”
“Gran Canaria will certainly take the Copa match as a reference on where to improve,” the coach told Realmadrid TV.
Chus Mateo spoke to Realmadrid TV a day ahead of our team's visit to Gran Canaria for league matchday 21 (Sunday, 6:30 pm CET): “So far we have done an acceptable job but I think there is always room for improvement. In short, the Endesa League is really tough and we still have lots of games to play, against many opponents, so we have to keep our feet on the ground. It’s too early to think that you can finish first. The important thing is to be as high as possible in this regular league and then do a very good job in the playoffs. We are on the right track, but you can't be careless with any of our opponents. We have a very important and very tough schedule.”
“Gran Canaria are a very good side. They are a team with a lot of offensive options but their defensive structure is also very good. They can definitely take that Cup game as a reference to improve several things and give us problems. They already gave us problems in the Cup but we were able to solve them. We played great defense and that's the way forward”.
Adding another win to the streak
"Victories always give us a lot of confidence. A win in a Clasico always gives us confidence, and it was an important game for us. We had to pull it out of the bag and we did. Now we have to continue what we’ve been doing and feel confident in what we do and in ourselves. Knowing how to win games, sometimes without playing brilliantly, because that gives you mental strength. For me it’s key to feel that we’re capable”.
