On 19 February 2012, the Whites clinched the cup after a scintillating victory over Barcelona at the Palau Sant Jordi. Llull was instrumental in the final (74-91) with 23 points and was voted MVP of the competition. Carroll also excelled with 22 points.
In this edition, Real Madrid knocked out Fuenlabrada (75-66) and Banca Cívica Sevilla (92-84) in the previous rounds. This triumph in the Copa del Rey also allowed Madrid to become champions of this competition again 19 years after their previous triumph.
