Chus Mateo: “The team continues taking steps forward”
“In the moments that we’ve been strong defensively and consistent we’ve been able to maintain a gap on the scoreboard” Abalde explained.

Chus Mateo and Alberto Abalde evaluated Real Madrid's victory at Dreamland Gran Canaria in league matchday 21. The coach said after the game: “We didn’t play pretty for the spectators but I go home more relaxed than playing pretty and losing. Defensively we did what we had to do. We have a team that continues taking steps forward and in the next Euroleague game against Panathinaikos already in our heads, hopefully we can do well and get the win.”
“We've also taken advantage of the fact that they did not have an important source of points like Homesley, but soon we’ll also get some players back who have been missing, like Deck or Ibaka”.
Deck's return
"I expect him to be back shortly. He's almost certainly not going to be ready for this week. He has to start working with the team, starting to play with his teammates, getting back into the rhythm of training. He’s always in my thoughts because he’s a player who can give us a jump in quality and we know him well”.
Abalde: “I always try to add to the team”
"In the moments when we were good at the back and consistent, we’ve been able to maintain a gap on the scoreboard. It was a cagey game at first with little scoring from both teams. Then, we took two leads but we knew that they were going to come back and they did. But we were able to reopen a cushion to get an important win at a tricky court”.
Individual level
"I always try to add for the team. Sometimes I have different facets but I try to be strong in them all and help the team in what it needs. I'm enjoying myself and I'm happy”.
