Real Madrid lost on their visit to Fenerbahce in the 26th round of the Euroleague. Chus Mateo's team were unable to win in their second game of the week in Istanbul. The home side went into half-time with a 12-point lead which our team were unable to turn around despite reducing the deficit in the third quarter.
The game saw a lack of accuracy and poor shooting from both teams. From the 4th minute onwards, Fenerbahce took the initiative thanks to McCollum's 8 practically consecutive points (10-4; 6'). Little by little, Madrid grew until they levelled the score. They applied themselves more in defence and did not concede any second chances. With the Tavares-Abalde duo and Smith Jr. scoring 6 points, the first quarter ended with the score tied at 16.

The first eight minutes of the second quarter were marked by equality. If our team scored, the Turkish team responded and vice versa (24-24; min. 15). Chus Mateo's men dominated the low post (21 rebounds compared to 13 for their rivals), but they were unable to move the ball quickly and that meant they were unable to gain any ground on the scoreboard. With two minutes to go in the quarter, the home side, with a great McCollum (15 points), went on a 12-0 run to make it 40-28 at half-time.
Madrid came out better after the break. They upped the tempo of their game, took advantage of offensive rebounds and found better spaces to shoot. Llull, with two consecutive three-pointers, led our team's offence (46-41; 24'). However, Fenerbahce withstood the visitors‘ momentum and struck back to make it an 11-point difference (58-47) at the end of the third quarter. Chus Mateo’s men had ten minutes to stage a comeback, but once again they came up against the opposition's accuracy from the perimeter and a very inspired Hayes-Davis (20 points). The Turks managed their lead and took the win.
