Real Madrid came out on top against Maccabi in an incredible game at the Movistar Arena that was decided in the final seconds, and broke a record as the highest-scoring EuroLeague matchup ever without overtime, totalling 229 points. Chus Mateo’s boys headed into the break 57-63 down, a record points tally at halftime, but a stunning end to the third quarter, eight three-pointers included, coupled with a sublime final period by Campazzo sealed the comeback. The Argentine posted 31 points and a PIR of 43 for his all-time best performance.
Our team were plagued by shooting errors early on, while Maccabi were looking dangerous with a series of rapid counters to go 5-13 up. Real Madrid reacted well though, finding eight from Campazzo and another eight from Musa to cut the deficit to just two, before Campazzo's third triple edged us in front (21-20). From there until the end of the first quarter, Chus Mateo charges took their lead to 33-27 thanks to the 11 points contributed by Campazzo and Musa, plus 9 from HezonjaGaruba also enjoyed a strong end to the period, before Jokubaitis' last-gasp three made it 33-30.

All-time top score at the break
The start of the second quarter mirrored the first in many ways, as six successive points for the Israeli outfi put them back in front. Two baskets for Garuba broke the visitors' rhythm, before a Rathan-Mayes triple put Madrid ahead once more with six minutes until haltime (42-40). There was then a flurry of activity at both ends to race to 49-50, as Llull hit a three with 3:35 left on the clock and Hezonja, who now had 17 to his name, tied the game at 53 apiece. Maccabi hit back and forced Chus Mateo into a timeout: it was 53-58 with 1:28 left on the clock. That run finished at 57-63, a record-breaking score at halftime in a EuroLeague game.

Stepping up a gear
Our team were quickly in a bonus situation with just 90 seconds of quarter three played, and the visitors enjoyed a purple patch to race to +10 (62-72) with 6:50 to go. Chus Mateo opted to play with two point guards and in a little under two minutes, Real Madrid cut the deficit with some sublime defending, seven Campazzo points, an Ndiaye triple and a 2+1 for Feliz (75-76). An Abalde three-pointer and another by Feliz put our team ahead once again: 81-78. The point-scoring pace was reletnless and Ndiaye's third triple in the quarter, plus another for Llull, opened up the narrowest of margins (91-90) before the decisive quarter.

Tense to the final moments
The final period continued the script of the game and the visitors, who posted 26 of 26 from the free-throw line, were still very much in the game: 99-98 with 5:34 to play. Our boys broke the century mark with over four minutes still on the clock, but even that wasn't enough as Blatt's triple tied things up at 105 with three minutes to go in this thriller. It was to be a tense finish befitting of such a clash, Real Madrid edging it with (114-113) 27 seconds left. A monumental defense by our boys saw the opposition time out in possession without a shot being released, and Campazzo's last two free-throws gave Chus Mateo's boys the bragging rights in a historic match.
