Madrid lose the second game of the Euroleague playoffs
Olympiacos Piraeus
FinishedReal Madrid
Our team was superior in the first quarter, but refereeing decisions and Olympiacos' accuracy in the second half decided the game.

Real Madrid fought until the end in Piraeus, but were unable to draw level in the Euroleague playoffs series, and will travel to the Movistar Arena with a 2-0 deficit. Our team started the game very brightly against Olympiacos and were up by 13 points in the 8th minute. The home side was on the ropes, but refereeing decisions gave them a chance to recover. They shot 21 free throws in the first half alone, compared to 8 for us, and managed to draw level at the break. In the second half, the Greeks' better shooting gave them the second game of the series. Hezonja was Madrid's best player with 22 points and 8 rebounds (PIR of 24).
Madrid were very focused going into the second game in a row in Athens. Attentive in rebounding, concentrated in defence and circulating the ball very well in attack. Hezonja instigated a 4-10 lead in the 4th minute. But the referees penalised Chus Mateo's team, who in their best moment and with a +13 on the scoreboard, went into bonus very early. Despite this, Madrid remained solid and with Deck and Feliz very prominent in the game and ended the first quarter ten up (15-25).
21 free throws against in the first half
Olympiacos improved in the second quarter and began to close the gap. In their first push they failed to do so, due to Garuba and Feliz's performance preventing them from doing so (24-29; 15'). However, the refereeing decisions against them were continuous and ended up taking their toll on Real Madrid. The opposition took advantage of this to go on a 14-4 run. The 18 fouls against our team, including two technical fouls, and 21 free throws in the Greeks' favour in the first half (compared to eight for the Whites) punished Real Madrid, who were at least able to hold on for a draw at half-time (38-38).
Chus Mateo's team recovered after the break. They increased their intensity in defence and hit the three-pointers. Hezonja, with 8 points, led the way to 45-52 (26'). But the home side hit back through Fournier with another 10 points to go in front at the end of the third quarter (57-54).
Madrid fought until the end
Madrid's attack stalled and Olympiacos began to increase the lead (64-54; min. 35). But our team had not yet said the final word. Hezonja put the team on his back and in three minutes reduced the difference to three points (67-64). Two three-pointers in a row in the last minute and a half by Williams-Goss and Peters sealed the game and Olympiacos made it 2-0 in the series before visiting Madrid at the Movistar Arena on Tuesday.
