MATCH REPORT.Rodrigo Salamanca

Real Madrid got an important win at the Movistar Arena to climb to the top of the league. Our team overtakes Valencia Basket and Unicaja in the standings after beating Leyma Coruña with a +16 difference. From the tip-off, Chus Mateo's men showed intensity and did not give their opponents a chance, adding their fourteenth victory in the championship and completing another strong week with two wins. Ibaka was the most outstanding player and beat his scoring record in the competition (18 points). Campazzo's final minutes were also key (15 points and a PIR of 18).
Madrid settled into a groove from the off with MusaHugo González and, above all, Ibaka (7 points) scoring to establish a 14-4 lead (min. 5). Chus Mateo's men remained focused, imposing themselves on the rebound and maintaining their shooting success to extend the lead even further at the end of an excellent first quarter (29-12).
Ibaka sets the tone for a great first-half
Chus Mateo shuffled his pack and everyone who came in contributed. With a more physical quintet, Ndiaye captained our team to reach +20 (35-15; min. 14). The entry of IbakaHezonja and Abalde gave an extra offensive boost to continue the dominance in every facet. The A Coruña defence was unable to stop our centre, who didn’t miss in 13 minutes, scoring 14 points and getting a 21 in PIR (44-18). With two minutes to go before the break, the visitors reduced the difference to leave the half-time scoreboard at 46-30.
The tone of the game didn't change after the break. Ibaka continued to do his thing under the basket and went on to score 16 points to break his Liga Endesa scoring record. Madrid made another excellent start to the quarter, with Hezonja (8 points) and Musa chipping in to make it 60-39 at the 27' mark. Campazzo and Hugo González also added to the team's good offensive level as the third quarter ended 69-51.
Madrid take the lead
Leyma Coruña came out better in the last quarter. They went on a 2-9 run with good minutes from former Madrid player Thompkins bringing them within 11 points (71-60). However, Chus Mateo's team knew that a 14-point margin of victory would take them top - and they grabbed the opportunity with both hands. In three minutes, they opened up a lead of +19 (86-67; 38') thanks to the contribution of Campazzo (13 points) and Ibaka. In the end, our team sealed their victory (90-74) and culminated a perfect week after the win against Baskonia last Thursday.
