Grupo Ibérica is a new partner of the Real Madrid Foundation
Butragueño welcomed Fernando Núñez, president of Grupo Ibérica, to Real Madrid City.
Real Madrid's Director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueño, welcomed the President of Grupo Ibérica, Fernando Núñez Rebolo, to Real Madrid City to sign a collaboration agreement. This Spanish holding company, comprising 38 companies with more than 1,750 employees, will be a new partner of the Real Madrid Foundation's social and sporting projects in prisons.
The collaboration agreement supports the sustainability of the activity of 6 social sports schools for football and basketball, held in 3 penitentiary centres (Madrid I and Ocaña I and II), serving around 250 inmates.
Values
Butragueño stated that thanks to the common values of both institutions, a project that he is familiar with is being implemented, where he has been able to experience that "it is very comforting to understand how useful it is for our users, in the midst of this routine and monotony, to be able to exercise in order to acquire values". Núñez Rebolo said that this is a dream come true: "I reaffirm Grupo Ibérica's commitment, which we hope will last for many more years, collaborating and doing our bit to make the world a better place".
30 schools in prisons
The Real Madrid Foundation, in partnership with the General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions and the Padre Garralda-Horizontes Abiertos Foundation, runs 30 schools in penitentiary centres throughout Spain. After nearly 20 years carrying out this work, it was awarded the Gold Medal for Prison Merit in the 2016/17 season, reaching more than 25,000 people.
Objective
The social sports schools are an ideal vehicle to contribute to re-education for reintegration through football and basketball. Sports activities help to minimise tension and reduce conflicts by fostering positive interpersonal relationships among inmates and also with prison staff.
