At a ceremony held at Real Madrid City, the Real Madrid Foundation renewed its agreement with the Amigos del Deporte Foundation. Both organisations reaffirm their joint commitment to promoting sport as a tool for integration and development in Bulgaria.
Attending the event were the Bulgarian ambassador to Spain, Aleksey Andreev; the honorary president of the Amigos del Deporte Foundation, Nikolina Angelkova; and Real Madrid's Director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueño.
This partnership, which began in 2014, has made it possible to bring the values of sport to communities in Bulgaria. The Real Madrid Foundation, together with the Amigos del Deporte Foundation, has provided sports training opportunities for children and young people in vulnerable situations.
Schools
Throughout the years, the alliance has had a huge impact, beginning with the opening of the first social sports school in Vidin in 2016. Having benefited many young people, this project continues to build on its success with the opening of a new school in Pravets, scheduled for April 2025. It will offer sports and training support to 90 young people aged 5-17, responding to the demand for opportunities in the region.
Honorary president of the Amigos del Deporte Foundation, Nikolina Angelkova, highlighted the importance of the collaboration: "Thanks to the joint endeavour with the Real Madrid Foundation, we have been able to not only provide access to sport, but also to educate our youngsters in values that will accompany them throughout their lives".
Butragueño underlined: "This agreement is a perfect example of how sport can change lives. We're proud to be able to continue collaborating with the Amigos del Deporte Foundation and to be able to expand our work in Bulgaria with the opening of new schools and clinics".
Last season, the social sports school in Vidin had 60 direct beneficiaries, who were taught fundamental values such as teamwork, respect and self-improvement. Activities at the school include training and social support, providing young people with the necessary tools to move towards a better future.
Clinics in Bulgaria
A new landmark for the Real Madrid Foundation will be the first clinic to be held in Bulgaria in August 2025, in the city of Sofia. Aimed at boys and girls from 7 to 17 years of age, it will be the first experience of its kind in the country and will enable those taking part to experience the exclusive Real Madrid Foundation training methodology.
In renewing this agreement, both foundations are reaffirming their commitment to continue working alongside each other to provide a more inclusive future full of opportunities for young people in Bulgaria. The agreement not only represents a renewal of the partnership but also a firm commitment to continue improving the quality of life of young Bulgarians through the values of sport.
