On 26 June 1993, Real Madrid collected their 17th Copa del Rey trophy. The Whites faced Zaragoza in the final at Mestalla. Butragueño gave the madridistas the lead in the first half and in the 78th minute, Lasa sealed the trophy four years after their previous Copa triumph.
Under the guidance of Benito Floro, Real Madrid eliminated Mallorca (round of 16), Real Sociedad (quarter-finals) and Barcelona (semi-finals). Zamorano was instrumental in that Copa campaign, scoring six goals in the seven matches.
