Real Madrid lifted their thirteenth LaLiga trophy on 20 April, 1968. Miguel Muñoz's side got their hands on the title in front of their home fans in the penultimate game of the season, with a 2-1 victory over UD Las Palmas in which Velázquez and Pirri found the net.

The result took the championship out of reach of the team from the Canary Islands, who sat second in the standings and finished third, and Barcelona, runners-up in the end. Madrid's top scorers that season were AmancioVelázquez and Pirri, with 10 goals each. Real Madrid also finished with the league's meanest defence, conceding only 26 goals, while Junquera won the Zamora Trophy.
