On March 3, 2017, Real Madrid said goodbye to one of our legends. Raymond Kopa passed away at the age of 85, but his memory lives on as one of the great stars of the first European Cup winning team. The Frenchman played for Real Madrid between 1956 and 1959, winning the continent’s premier club trophy three times in that period.
Kopa is a member of one of the best forward lines in the history of football along with RialPuskasGento and Di Stéfano. His record as a Real Madrid player is composed of three European Cups, two League championships and a Latin Cup. He played 103 games for Real Madrid, scoring 30 goals and winning the Ballon d'Or in 1958. He is also a key figure in the history of Stade de Reims and the French national team.
