On this day 96 years ago, Real Madrid played their first ever league match. Our team made their competition debut on 10 February 1929, when they hosted Europa at the ChamartÃn Stadium on the opening day of the season. Four goals from Lazcano, who became Real Madrid's inaugural marksman in the national championship, and one from Morera sealed a 5-0 victory.
Ten teams competed in the first edition, with Real Madrid finishing as runners-up with 11 wins, 1 draw and 6 defeats. The match against Europa was the starting point of Real Madrid's legend in the League, going on to dominate the honours list with 36 titles.
