Two years without Amancio
On 21 February 2023, the Real Madrid legend, honorary president and winner of six European Cups, nine league titles and three Spanish Cups passed away.

Two years ago, Real Madrid said goodbye to one of the great legends in the club's history: Amancio Amaro Varela. A true icon for Madrid fans, he played for the Whites from 1962 to 1976. Over the course of those 14 seasons, he played 471 games, scored 155 goals and became a world-famous football star.
At the time of his death, Amancio was 83 years old and had been the honorary president of Real Madrid since 2022 for his contribution to the club. Amancio led the Real Madrid 'yeyé' team that won the 6th European Cup scoring a stunner in the final. In addition to winning 9 Liga titles and 3 Spanish Cups as a player, he was one of the great driving forces behind the Quinta del Buitre during his time as coach, he also led Castilla to a historic Second Division championship.
