Real Madrid continue their defence as European champions and tonight they face the fifth of eight first-round matches in the new Champions League format (9 pm CET). A big game is in store and an important challenge as Ancelotti's side take on the competition and Premier League leaders at Anfield, where they are eight points clear of Manchester City.
The Whites face a hugely demanding clash against one of the favourites for the title and the opponents in the finals for La Decimotercera and La Decimocuarta. Madrid will be aiming to continue their good form that has seen them produce convincing victories in the last two matches (4-0 against Osasuna and 0-3 at Leganés). However, this will be a stern test for the Madridistas. They are up against the only team to have won all four of their matches in the competition (Bayer Leverkusen (4-0), Leipzig (0-1), Bologna (2-0) and Milan (1-3) have been their opponents).
“We're feeling confident to face a very demanding side,” said Ancelotti. The Italian coach has named his squad as his side go in search of a third victory in the Champions League. Lucas Vázquez returns, but Vini Jr., who picked up a thigh injury in his left leg last time out, will be missing.
The opposition
Liverpool go into the clash in spectacular form. The Premier League leaders are unbeaten in 14 games, 13 of which have ended in victory. Their record this season is 16 wins, one draw and one defeat, which came at Anfield against Nottingham Forest. Salah is their top scorer with 12 goals. A fantastic game is in store at Anfield.
