Kylian Mbappé faces his first Madrid derby against Atlético Madrid this Saturday. The French striker, who has 22 goals to his name this season, gave his thoughts on RM Play Sessions: “It's going to be a great match and it's very important. This is the first time I'm going to play in this match. I'm looking forward to playing and helping the team, and I hope we can win.”
“I always aim to play to win. I'm sure it's going to be a very important match for us and for all Madridistas. The objective is always the same, to win. Even more so when we're playing against Atlético with the situation we are in in the league, they're close to us. We have to win and we'll do everything to do so.”
The fans’ role
“They're always with us. I'm sure there will be a great atmosphere at the Bernabéu, as always. I hope they can help us win and we show that we're the best team.”
International teammates at Atlético
“I think it's easier to play against people you have a good relationship with because they know it's not personal, that we're playing to defend our colours. At the end of the game we're friends, but during the game they know that I'm going to do everything for Real Madrid. We have to win.”
Are you passionate about another sport?
“Basketball. I like to watch the NBA. Serge Ibaka, who is here, is my friend. I try to watch the Real Madrid team as well.”
What would you do if you weren’t a footballer?
“It's difficult. I'd try to be a basketball player, but I'm too small.”
Your favourite place to rest
“At home. When you play every three days it's very important to be able to be at home resting with the family, alone or with friends. We travel a lot, we play a lot of away games and when you have the opportunity to be at home it's the best thing possible.”
