We won our first UEFA Cup 39 years ago
Real Madrid beat Hungarian side Videoton on 22 May 1985 in the final, which was played over two legs.

It is 39 years since Real Madrid's first UEFA Cup. On 22 May 1985, our team lifted the title at The Santiago Bernabéu against Hungarian side Videoton. In the first leg, the Madridistas got the final on track with a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Míchel, Santillana and Valdano. This was enough to win the trophy despite losing the return leg 1-0.
On the way to the final, Madrid knocked out Wacker Innsbruck, Rijeka, Anderlecht, Tottenham and Inter Milan. It was a historic competition that saw three unforgettable comebacks at the Santiago Bernabéu. The first was a 3-0 win over Rijeka after a 3-1 first leg defeat. The second, even more spectacular, after turning around a 3-0 first leg deficit against Anderlecht with an emphatic 6-1 win. And the last one, in the semi-finals, when they eliminated Inter 3-0 despite a 2-0 win in Milan. Individually, Santillana was the team's top scorer with 5 goals.
