Goals from Vini Jr. and Mbappé from the penalty spot secure The Whites all three points against Real Sociedad. Madrid remain unbeaten in official competition.
Real Madrid achieved a hard-fought victory in San Sebastian. The Whites, unbeaten in their six official matches so far this season, decided the game against Real Sociedad in the second half. They took the lead with a penalty for a handball by Sergio Gómez after a shot by Arda Güler that was converted by Vini Jr. in the 58th minute. And they extended the gap with another penalty committed by Aramburu on Vini Jr., which was taken by Mbappé, who beat Remiro in the 74th minute. Ancelotti's side have now gone 37 games unbeaten in LaLiga.
The first half ended goalless, although both teams had chances to break the deadlock. The first went Real Madrid‘s way after 18 minutes. Mbappé cut inside Aguerd's to make into the area and his left-footed shot forced a fine save from Remiro. The home side's reaction came seven minutes later when Sučić's shot from the edge of the area hit the crossbar. The game was end to end and on the half hour mark, Madrid could have scored. Modrić took a free kick and Rüdiger's header was saved by the Real Sociedad keeper.
More chances
The tempo was very high and Real Sociedad replied again with another shot against the crossbar in 36', this time it was Sadiq after a nice personal move. A minute later, Mbappé tried his luck when he got the better of Aramburu with a spectacular flip-flap and then shot from a tight angle, but the shot missed the target by inches. Just after the start of the second half, the home side were again denied by the post. A combination inside the box between Sadiq and Sučić saw the latter's shot hit Courtois' right-hand post.
The goals
Real had missed their chances and Real Madrid took the lead in the 58th minute. Arda Güler shot from the edge of the area and the ball hit Sergio Gómez's arm, who was inside the box. It was a clear penalty that Vini Jr. converted to make it 0-1. The Whites' goal hurt the home side, who in the 75th minute saw the away side widen the gap, also through a penalty after Aramburu stepped on Vini Jr. Martínez Munuera, alerted by the VAR, saw the play on the monitor and indicated the penalty, which Mbappé took, sending Remiro the wrong way to make it 0-2. The French striker's fourth goal of the season so far sealed Real Madrid's win on their return to LaLiga action after the international break.
