Spoils shared in the derby

Real Madrid picked up a point in the postponed matchday 14 league meeting at the Centro Deportivo Alcalá de Henares. Toril’s team drew with Atlético in a game that saw the hosts take the lead through Sheila early on. Olga levelled from the spot with 22 minutes on the clock to see the madridistas extend their unbeaten league run to six games. They’ll be back in action again on Sunday when they host UDCA Tenerife at the Alfredo Di Stéfano (4:00pm CET). Toril also oversaw his 100th game from the dugout and Misa brought up her century of league appearances.

The game quickly became an uphill battle when Sheila headed home from a corner to make it 1-0 (5’). From then on, Madrid gradually began to get a foot on the ball and with 20 minutes gone, Toletti's cross struck Gaby's hand. The referee pointed to the spot and Olga stepped up to convert and level the scoring. With half an hour played, Bruun tried her luck with a bicycle-kick from inside the area, but Gallardo was equal to it. In injury time, Ajibade had a chance for the hosts but Misa gathered well.

Second half remains goalless
As the teams emerged after the break, Eva Navarro could have made it two with a strike from the edge of the box but the ball came crashing back off the crossbar. Our team responded on the hour-mark with two attempts in quick succession. First, Linda Caicedo's curling effort skimmed just over the bar, before Bruun connected with a powerful header which Gallardo did well to keep out. On 66’, the hosts came close to taking the lead once more, but Gaby's header was superbly saved by the diving Misa. Eleven minutes later, our goalkeeper was vital once more, repelling Gaby's strike from inside the area. Despite both teams carving out chances, the scores didn't change before the final whistle.
