Santiago Bernabéu was not satisfied with what he had achieved with the opening of the Nuevo Chamartín Stadium. He kept coming up with new ideas to improve the stadium and adapt it to the club's growing social mass. In this second phase of construction, which began in 1952, the main objectives were to reach a capacity of 125,000 spectators and to equip the stadium with the most modern equipment possible.
The stadium with the new capacity was inaugurated in June 1954. In 1955, the members unanimously decided to call the stadium Santiago Bernabéu. Subsequently, further improvements were carried out. In 1957 it became the best-lit stadium in the world. In 1965, the transfer of all the club's offices, which since its creation had been on a constant search for new premises in the capital, to its facilities was completed.
The stadium had become the most important in Spain and was ready to host international events such as the 82 World Cup
