The Croatian legend, who won the European Cup Winners' Cup and the Copa del Rey with Real Madrid, died in a car accident on 7 June 1993.

It was on 7 June 1993 that Drazen Petrovic died in a traffic accident in Germany. Madrid fans were treated to his brilliance during the 1988/89 season, and playing in white he put on displays that earned him a place in the history of Real Madrid. Among them was the European Cup Winners' Cup final, in which he scored 62 points to beat Snaidero Caserta. That season also saw him win the Copa del Rey (King's Cup).
 
Petrovic was born in Sibenik (Croatia) on 22 October 1964 and was 28 years old at the time of the tragic accident, but he was already a European basketball legend. He first excelled at KK Sibenka and Cibona Zagreb before joining Real Madrid. After shining at our club, he began his NBA career, where he played for the Portland Trail Blazers and New Jersey Nets. In the latter franchise, his jersey with the number 3 was retired following his death.
