The WiZink Center's emotional tribute to Rudy: a 15-minute ovation
The fans bid farewell to the Madrid small forward in what may have been his last game on our court.
With 1:45 left to play, Rudy Fernández struck his fourth straight three-pointer to seal Real Madrid's second win in the Liga Endesa final series against UCAM Murcia. Eleven seconds later, Chus Mateo replaced him and, from that point on, the atmosphere in the WiZink Center turned magical. The entire Palacio rose to its feet to bid farewell in an impromptu emotional tribute to a true legend of our club and world basketball. The ovation continued for the remainder of the game and for a considerable time afterwards, up to 15 minutes, during which Rudy kissed the crest, received a commemorative plaque and an emotional embrace from his children, and then was interviewed by Movistar. Behind him, the fans chanted Rudy Fernández's name and did not stop doing so until the legend finally left for the dressing rooms.
