Today marks the eighth anniversary of Real Madrid's 26th Copa del Rey basketball crown. On 21 February 2016, the Whites edged Gran Canaria (81-85) in the final of a competition that took place in La Coruña. Ayón was instrumental in the final with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 23 in PIR and was named MVP of the competition. The Mexican was accompanied by Carroll and Reyes, who racked up 13 and 12 points respectively.
On the road to the trophy, the madridistas overcame Fuenlabrada in the quarter-finals (101-84) and Baskonia in the semi-finals (80-86). As a result of their triumph in the final, Real Madrid became the first team to clinch three consecutive Copa del Rey trophies in the ACB era.
