LaLiga leaders run riot to go clear at the top
MATCH REPORT.Alberto Navarro

Real Madrid have all eyes fixed on winning LaLiga, and moved one step closer tonight with a fantastic win over Girona at the Santiago Bernabéu. The table-toppers, who move five clear of their Catalan rivals, set themselves up for a convincing victory with a fine first half. They were quickly ahead after Vini Jr.'s stunning right-footed effort, extending the lead half-an-hour later with a slick move that saw the Brazilian turn provider for Bellingham, who rounded Gazzaniga to slot home. The league's top scorer with 16 to his name, Bellingham was at the double after the break, before Rodrygo rounded off a superb evening for our team.

Real Madrid flew out the blocks, making it 1-0 just six minutes in. Vini Jr. picked up the ball way out, feinted to pass and then caught Gazzaniga out with a spectacular effort that left the goalkeeper with no chance at all. The leaders seemed comfortable at the back, despite Girona taking control of the ball and creating the odd threatening moment. Bellingham tried his luck with a left-footed strike from the edge of the box with just over half-an-hour gone, and it was to prove a warning shot by the English ace. In the very next move with 36 minutes on the clock, Real Madrid doubled their advantage. Vini Jr. delivered a delightful pass with the outside of his right boot, sending Bellingham through one-on-one with Gazzaniga, who rounded the keeper with his first touch and turned the ball into the net with his second.

Bellingham brace
Girona came out for the second half eager to reduce the deficit but their hopes were swiftly dented by another goal for Ancelotti's side on 54'. Vini Jr. was in the thick of it again on the left-hand side, beating Yan Couto with a sublime piece of skill and getting his shot off. Gazzaniga's parry fell at the feet of Bellingham, who completed his brace. It was 3-0 and the British midfielder's sixteenth LaLiga goal, making him the country's top scorer. One minute later he retired to a standing ovation, replaced by Brahim.

Rodrygo adds the gloss
The leaders were in full flow now and they found a fourth goal with 61 minutes played. Vini Jr. stole the ball from Yan Couto and Rodrygo did the rest. He picked it up, drove straight towards goal and unleashed a precise curling effort the minute he set foot inside the visitors' box. Madrid are LaLiga's top scorers and boast the meanest defence, and they could have added to their impressive numbers but Joselu could only find the post with his penalty after Yan Couto had upended Arda Güler in the box. A superb result and attentions now turn to the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 tie in Leipzig.
