On this day, 61 years ago, Real Madrid secured their seventh basketball league title. On 13 April 1964, the Whites mathematically clinched the title by beating Águilas in Bilbao (63-71) with one game to go before the end of the championship. The team coached by Joaquín Hernández finished the championship with a record of 19 wins and 3 defeats.
In this edition, the competition was divided into two phases. First, a Regular Season split into two groups, in where Real Madrid were top of Group A. Then, a final phase between the top three in each group, in which the Madridistas won with one game to go before the end of the season. Emiliano Rodríguez was the top scorer that season with an average of 22.6 points per game. Real Madrid also clinched the title for the fifth consecutive season and at the end of that campaign they also won their first European Cup.
